Clubfitting 101: On the Edge of Able Golf Club Fitting
Here I begin to consider the two extreme-end approaches on the Lifeline of Clubfitting as stand-alone processes to see how potentially effective each alone may be in the fitting of golf clubs. First think of fitting clubs only to one’s golf swing without regard to any other elements of play, which I reemphasize here can be attempted and accomplished with virtually every golf club specification. Why attempt this? Well if the fit of one’s golf club(s) allows one to swing to the best of his or her ability, then one’s best capacity for distance, control, and consistency hitting golf balls with the given club(s) becomes available. What other reason do you need for desiring to fit golf clubs directly to one’s swing? Should clubs be fit based on one’s golf swing alone? The answer is no. I previously elaborated on how golf swings that are beautifully performed can in fact be accompanied by unsatisfactory golf ball travel, and not just on rare occasions. Thus, clubfitting to one’s swing (by itself) is not the ideal and/or acceptable situation to strive for.
In addition to countless personal experiences in this specific matter, a sound justification for this Waggle Weight Wisdom is derived through the availability and study of almost unlimited, various club design features. One observation in particular that can be made is that otherwise typical men’s golf clubs can have their balances adjusted such that women or younger players may still be able to swing them with exceptionally well-coordinated motions, at least for a period of time. Yet larger, heavier grips and heavier, stiffer shafts that are commonly parts of men’s clubs are not generally conducive toward achieving the best golf ball travel results for these different stature golfers. The only conclusion is that, despite what seems to be a perfect circumstance under which to fit golf clubs to golfers, clubs cannot and should not be fit based on one’s golf swing alone. In analyzing this circumstance in terms other than ball travel, it may instead be stated that the ability of golfers to often adjust well and still swing well when certain features of non-perfect clubs are present for their use, precludes the fitting of golf clubs strictly to the way they swing. Are golf clubs fit totally (or even largely, or even moderately, or often even remotely) to the way one swings? Most people within the clubfitting industry may think yes, but in reality the answer is no. Honestly complete a Lifeline of Clubfitting for yourself or for anyone else you have had experience with and judge the results.
Now a large part of determining whether golfers are swinging well is based on subjective perceptions called “feel.” Perhaps this leaves one with the impression that good swinging will always comprise an unlimited number of artistic human interpretations that cannot be categorized or reduced to data any further than that. This, however, is just not the case. While there always will be (and should be) elements of feel when swinging and fitting golf clubs, several significant principles never even touched on before in golf will allow the fitting of clubs directly to one’s swinging performance to be just about as scientific as launch monitor numbers. If there is one conspicuous deficiency that can be pointed to that keeps the golf clubfitting trade rather irrelevant toward helping golfers improve their play more, it is the utter failure of that industry’s most visible “authorities” to decipher, translate, and reveal the correct principles of how to fit golf clubs directly to one’s swing.
As more and more “organizations” seem to be popping up recently that might offer memberships, certifications, or similar for clubfitting, golf swing teaching skills, and more, even moving into some college classrooms, certain observations become even more evident and astounding. One is that overall the clubfitting industry predominantly still believes as though “the sun revolves around the earth” so to speak, although more of Waggle Weight Wisdom may have to be revealed before you better comprehend what I mean by that. Upon completion of the applicable presentations, most of today’s “experts” in the fields of golf club swinging and fitting will have little choice but to reshape their positions in many areas. Individuals or organizations unwilling or unable to revise their thinking and material(s) in a timely fashion will quickly be relegated to “dinosaur” status by those in the know.
Waggle Weight Wisdom™ is developed, produced and protected by the WaggleWeight™ Company. Additionally, pending patents, in which the company will optimistically soon have the exclusive right to allow or prohibit the use of advanced swingweighting for one, may be intimately connected with the usage of Waggle Weight Wisdom material or other WaggleWeight products/services. Now despite my harsh criticism of certain areas of the golf industry (deservedly so), I also know there are many terrific individuals, and perhaps even an organization or two, who put their worthy hearts and souls into golf and deserve much better than they have gotten from the rest of the golf industry. In many such cases, relationships might be forged with the WaggleWeight Company to display and/or use the company’s literature for example for little more than to help promote the source, though if waiting until the work becomes more widely acclaimed it would logically become pricier. Contrarily, I feel I would not want the WaggleWeight name or material(s) associated with some others at any price for various reasons. Still, individuals and organizations change every day, myself included. So who knows? But without an authorized relationship, the WaggleWeight Company stands ready to take legal action against any and all individuals or organizations that illegally use any WaggleWeight-Company-developed material. As Waggle Weight Wisdom will also include extremely insightful golf swing concepts not presently familiar to most swing instructors as well, the use of its content is not limited to the clubfitting trade by any means. Next, I will look at the opposite end of The Lifeline of Clubfitting, something far more familiar to golfers and clubfitters.
